FOLIO Personal Document Vault ("FOLIO", "we", "us", or "our") is an independent personal document management service operated by an individual based in India. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our service at folio-vault.web.app or any associated URL.

By creating an account and using FOLIO, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the service:

• Account information: Your full name, email address, and password (stored securely via Firebase Authentication — we never see your raw password).
• Security questions: The two security questions and answers you provide during sign-up, used as a second layer of identity verification at login.
• Uploaded documents: Files you upload to your vault, including their names, file types, sizes, and content. These are stored in your private cloud storage space.
• Usage metadata: Upload timestamps and document names, used to display your document history.

We do not collect your device information, browsing history, location, or any information beyond what is listed above.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to provide and operate the FOLIO service:

• To create and manage your account
• To authenticate your identity at login
• To store, retrieve, and display your uploaded documents
• To send password reset emails when you request them
• To respond to your support queries

We do not use your data for marketing, profiling, analytics beyond basic service operation, or any purpose not listed above.

4. Data Storage & Security

FOLIO uses Google Firebase — a secure cloud platform by Google — to store all user data. This means:

• Your data is stored on Google's servers, which are protected by industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest.
• Your password is hashed and managed by Firebase Authentication — it is never stored in plain text.
• Your documents are stored in Firestore, accessible only to your authenticated account.
• Firebase's servers may be located outside India, including in the United States or other countries. By using FOLIO, you consent to this cross-border data transfer.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with any third party, except in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: Google Firebase, which powers our authentication and storage infrastructure. Their use of your data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
• Legal requirements: If required by Indian law, court order, or government authority, we may be required to disclose information.
• Protection of rights: To protect the safety, rights, or property of FOLIO, its users, or the public.

In all other cases, your data stays with you.

6. Your Rights

As a user of FOLIO, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You can view all documents and account information stored in your vault at any time.
• Deletion: You can delete any document from your vault at any time. To request full account deletion, email us at foliovault.support@gmail.com and we will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 7 business days.
• Correction: If any account information is incorrect, contact us and we will correct it promptly.
• Data portability: You can download any document you have uploaded at any time using the Download function.

These rights are consistent with India's Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

7. Children's Privacy

FOLIO is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at foliovault.support@gmail.com and we will delete the account promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of FOLIO after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users via the email address associated with their account.
